Monumento al trabajo (Monument to work)
The sailors by Ramón Conde on the Gran Vía
The Monument to work is Vigo’s quintessential monument: it represents its pride as an industrial city, its hard-working people, its link to the sea... The sculpture of Los Redeiros, as it‘s commonly known, is a symbol of our identity. This work by Ramón Conde is one of the most striking monuments in Vigo, both for its size and the epic representation of seven sailors pulling a fish net out of the sea.
Located in the beginning of the Gran Vía, one of the city’s main streets, this great monument in Vigo honouring the harsh lives of seafarers is 30 feet tall and 10 feet long.
Another of Vigo’s famous workers is in Eugenio Fadrique Square, better known as the Praza da Industria, It’s a sculpture by Guillermo Steinbrüggen dedicated to metal workers.
