Alba-Outeiros Mountain PR-G9

A walk through the mountains that guard the sea

To make the route easier, it’s advisable to descend the trail by starting in the easternmost part. You can access it from km 7 of the Vigo-Gondomar PO-330 road, in A Garrida, parish of Valadares. The trail begins to the right and uphill, but only for the first section, bordering Cepudo Mountain and continuing to the top of Alba Mountain (approximately 500 yards high) where you’ll find a lovely chapel. The ascent is on easy and comfortable terrain and well worth the climb for the fabulous views of the city and the estuary.

From the top, the nature trail descends to Chandebrito, in Nigrán, a parish dotted with numerous ethnographic elements, like the remains of an ancient settlement and its outer fortifications.

After Chandebrito, the path enters Vigo again through the recreation area in Fragoselo, in the neighbourhood of Coruxo and continues to the chapel of San Sebastián. If you turn off just 100 yards, you’ll see some petroglyphs and, following the main path, you’ll come to a river dotted with old mills in ruins. Following its course, this short trail leads to the Vigo-Baiona road (PO-552), near the 13th century Coruxo church, the most representative of Vigo’s Romanesque architecture.

Tips and recommendations:

You can take urban transport to and from both ends of the trail.

This path also links with long-distance routes like GR-53 and GR-58.
