Vigo, the fishing city

Discover the secrets of La Lonja

Vigo is Galicia’s fishing city. Fishing activity in the port of Vigo generates 6,000 direct jobs, and 357 local fishing companies turn over more than 3,000 million Euros a year. It’s clear that we like fish, right? If you like it as much as we do, you’ve probably eaten fish from the port of Vigo dozens of times. The largest quantity of fresh fish in Europe enters the port of Vigo.

Vigo is also one of the few cities where you can experience first-hand the process of fishing and its products; from the shipyard, where large ships are built, to the loading and unloading in the spectacular Lonja de Vigo, a huge building that comes to life at dawn, while the rest of the city sleeps

Tips and recommendations:

Inquire at the Port Authority about the possibility of group tours to visit the Fish Market and witness one of the exciting fresh fish auctions. It's a truly unforgettable experience.
