O Calvario Market

O Calvario, a working-class area in the parish of Lavadores, became the important artery it is today in the late 19th century, thanks to the tram workers used to take to the shipyards in Beiramar. The market, which opened in the 1920s, was the result of that activity, and over time it has become one of the area’s emblems. Located in a pedestrian street, in one of Vigo’s most vibrant shopping areas, this market is lively and fun, and a good excuse to see another aspect of Vigo.

Tips and recommendations:

On your stroll through O Calvario, take the opportunity to enjoy an aperitif (drink before lunch or dinner) in one of the traditional cafes, or to have a look at the “De los picos” church. You’ll be surprised by its structure and luminosity.
